To start off Remi's virtual career, we may go back to 2019. This supported her willingness to learn and allowed her to branch off from the previous acoustic style she had developed with Chloe, forming her various different approaches to her style in the following years. Remi had begun to experiment with her style, participating in sessions with various of her friends who had partaken in singing and songwriting as well. Although with no prior announcement, it became clear Remi was attempting a solo exploration for her personal music career. The track, entitled "Slept With A Monster", was published in April of 2017 by nativetoEarth, a friend of Remi, featuring Aaron Reihs as the single's saxophonist. In 2017, nearing the time of Remi & Chloe's unofficial disbandment, Remi released her debut project excluding the accompaniment of Chloe. Circa 2017: Solo Career, " Slept With A Monster" The two became relatively successful and released multiple singles, alongside a full studio extended play. Remi and Chloe branched off from Citrus and decided to arrange Remi and Chloe, an acoustic duo. For an unknown reason, Citrus disbanded from Tatyana by the time Remi and Chloe entered high school. Citrus featured themselves at events such as parties and performed in matching outfits. The three came together via their mutual interest of singing and commonly sang cheery or upbeat songs together. Upon reaching sixth grade, Remi gathered two of her friends, Chloe Zilliac and Tatyana, and founded a barbershop acapella group named Citrus. Remi had been attending Escondido Elementary School where she befriended multiple students and started to express her love for music by the time she was in fourth grade. She began skiing when she was eight years old, and she went on to represent the United States in skiing at the Youth Olympic Games for two years in a row. Remi was born on February 2th, 1996, in Palo Alto, California. 2.4 2019: You're A Dog! and "Bad Behavior".2.3 Circa 2017: Solo Career, "Slept With A Monster".2.2 Circa 2011: Remi & Chloe, Duo Career.Mostly, it works phenomenally - extended harmonica in “Guerilla?” Sure! A guillotine sound effect in “Anthony Kiedis,” an ode to the lead vocalist of Red Hot Chili Peppers? Absolutely! A monologue entirely in a disquieting, grating baby talk voice in “Quiet on Set?” Not so much. It’s hard not to wonder if sometimes Wolf implements weird for weirdness’ sake. With that in mind, it’s also a remarkably cohesive album. This system, no doubt, contributes to the stream-of-consciousness vibe present throughout Juno. Wolf also shared with Consequence that she doesn’t like listening to her songs after more than a day. For any listeners feeling lost, overwhelmed, or like they’re losing their grip on reality, this album might just make them feel a little less alone. It’s unlikely that Wolf intended for this record to be a direct link to the events of the past year as much as it is her finding her own sound, but art is still intrinsically a reflection of its time, and this time has been chaotic. Overwhelmingly, the album as a whole offers a sense of comfort in its chaos, rather than in spite of it. “If my mouth is saying something, like a syllable or consonant, I will follow what my body wants to sing before I’ll follow what my brain wants to say,” she explains. In a recent interview with Consequence, Wolf shared that she has a tendency to create very organically, following her body more than her brain. Juno, her debut full-length album, is an odyssey through a world of oddities. Active social media users probably heard her track “Photo ID” on TikTok, but Wolf’s budding discography is much more than the viral hit may have suggested. She’s arrived on the indie-pop scene in a neon and rainbow-drenched burst and has become something of a festival darling over the past year. It’s not an inaccurate first impression for people who might be new to our October Artist of the Month, Remi Wolf. “Remi Wolf is a crazy bih but is also hella nice and sweet sometimes but also likes to yell at people but has figured out that maybe instead of yelling at people she can just sing.” This is the description that greets users who visit Remi Wolf’s official Spotify artist page.
